Definition:  Component that attaches to the sonde housing and creates a pilot bore

Function:

  • Cuts Ground
  • Steers Drill Head
  • Mixes the Drilling Fluids During Pilot Bore
  • Pulls Back Service Materials 
Composition and manufacture:
  • Ballantine pilot bits are made from a premium abrasion resistant steel alloy.
  • Unibody  (one-piece) design for all boring bits assures maximum strength.
  • A carbide matrix of Terminator®Hardfacingis applied to high wear points by a state of the art welding robot for consistency.
  • Indexed pockets securely attach brazed-in carbide for extended life.
  • A three-stage heat treat process after hardfacingensures durability.
